H dumortieri is a strong grower, and a consistent early bloomer. Here in Vermont it always blooms around the first week of June. As with all daylilies a few blooms will begin at least a week before this.

Hemerocallis dumortieri is one of the earliest blooming daylilies found in cultivation. Exhibiting pigmented buds and a strong scent this species golden yellow blooms.

Known Hazards: Large quantities of the leaves are said to be hallucinogenic. Blanching the leaves removes this hallucinatory component[205]. (This report does not make clear what it means by blanching, it could be excluding light from the growing shoots or immersing in boiling water[K].)
Range: E. Asia – Japan, Korea.
Habitat: Meadows in the mountains of N. and C. Japan[58, 187].
